How to Clean Your the Blinds in Your Maui Home

Posted in: Wood Blinds

Getting new window treatments installed in your home can make the whole place feel brand new. New window blinds are one of the easiest ways to make a room or even your entire Maui home, feel newly renovated.

However, your blinds or shades can easily start to become dirty, and they’re not always too clean. Some materials will be easier to clean than others, and that’s something you should take into consideration when you’re deciding on new blinds. But if you’ve got the right tools and methods, you can clean any type of blinds or shades and keep them that way.

Regular Cleaning

The first thing you’ll need to do is implement blind cleaning into your list of regular chores. Waiting to get this done will leave you with a heftier task when you do get around to it. Just like any cleaning task you have in your Maui home, not letting it “pile up” is always the best thing to do.

Deep Cleaning

Use a duster to get rid of any dirt that accumulates on your blinds. If there are any grimier stains, scrub them softly using a wet cloth. Remember to get the undersides of your blinds as well.

For vinyl blinds that have gotten very dirty, it’s not a bad idea to remove them and soak them in soapy water. But that’s only acceptable for vinyl blinds. You can easily ruin wood or fabric blinds this way. For those materials, use a sponge and warm water to spot-clean them, making sure you dry as you go. Vacuum cleaners can also be used to remove any excess dirt.

Cleaning Fabrics

For any fabric drapery, consult the fabric tag for specific instructions. Different fabrics will react differently to soap, water, and other treatments. If you’re just spot-cleaning the drapes, it shouldn’t be an issue. But tossing them into a washing machine can be risky unless you’re certain it’s safe.

Typically, the fabrics can be dry cleaned, but if you can’t find it on the tag, be sure you ask the dry cleaners before handing your drapes over.

Other Tips

Don’t overlook the fact that the mechanics of your blinds can damaged beyond repair if they’re submerged in water. Also, avoid any chemical-heavy soaps or harsh detergents when you’re spot-cleaning.

Your new blinds are something to be proud of. But if you want them to continue to provide you with the same pleasures, you’ll have to make sure you’re keeping up with their maintenance. Try to clean them once a week, and you won’t find yourself in too messy of a situation!
